I bit the bullet and installed WordPress. I have gotten all of my old entries imported (though no promises about images working right now) and have moved it into the space where the Blogger site used to live. Now RSS works! If you are already subscribed you shouldn’t need to change anything, the feed url will stay http://feeds.feedburner.com/ocellblog/
I’m just getting started with WordPress, so things are going to be very ‘out-of-the-box’ while I learn my way around. I hope to have a much more polished site in the near future. If you have any tips/comments about WordPress and this site, please feel free to drop them in the comments box. Thanks!
I went on a kick and really wanted to keep this blog updated, but then I realized something. My RSS feed has been broken for almost a year. Personally, if a site doesn’t have an RSS feed, I can’t keep up with it. I can’t help but assume that most others in the demographic for this blog are in the same situation. The knowledge has completely killed my motivation to update.
I think it has something to do with how customized my template is, and the switch Blogger made from its old system to the new system. I have been wanting to play with WordPress for a long time, so this might be the kick that gets me moving in that direction.
Does anyone have any tips for migrating a site from the Blogger system to a self-hosted WordPress installation? Any killer plugins for WordPress that I’ll want to look at? Am I crazy for considering the switch?
Any input is greatly appreciated.
I’d like to quickly recommend an excellent website, Lifehack.org. I ran across the site after a few of its posts have appeared on the front-page of Digg a few times. Man, I feel like I’ve really been missing out! From their own site description:
This site dedicated to lifehacks. The phrase describes any hacks, tips and tricks that get things done quickly by automating, increase productivity and organizing. This site is built around this theme. It is a frequently updated blog, which provides news and articles which able you to get things done in a faster pace.
Head over and take a look. It will be a new mainstay on my list of RSS feeds.
