Tivo TWiT Podcast

New Tivos are always fun! Now I’m waiting to get the newest software update so I can use the Linksys 10/100 Ethernet USB adapter I bought. Right now I’m on wireless… a neighbor’s open wireless. It doesn’t look like the Tivo supports TKIP shared key wireless security, which is what I use. Until I get the Ethernet adapter working the Tivo won’t be on my own network, and that means I won’t be streaming any music or pictures till then.

Pando was once known as an application that just let users email large video, photos and desktop files, and Instant Message high res image links. Thursday they introduced a web component. Users of the new free Pando application will be able to post HD video, high resolution photos, and podcasts to a website, or blog for download, or RSS subscriptions. All with the ability to password protect for download control. Pando is available for PC or Mac, and still not supported for Linux.

Since I switched my home computer from a Windows to a Mac machine, I haven’t had an easy way to serve up large files to friends like I could do with programs like Foldershare. Pando looks like it could be very useful.

Excellent interview with Chris Bangle, an American designer who is currently the chief of design for the BMW group.
Full interview at www.design-emotion.com
A short snippet:
What is false I believe is to try and “strategize emotion”…without understanding of spontaneity, context, or serendipity. What is equally false is to try and design without a orientation, without a framework; randomly. Design needs clear borders to push against, only in that way can it be strengthened. And sometimes you wind up moving some borders…that too must be allowed.

I’d really like to redesign my whole web presence. Right now all of my different ventures, the blog, my portfolios, and several other projects, are all completely disjointed. I think that’s just an effect of how I have developed them, independently as my experience and curiosity dictated.
I’m constantly taking mental notes as I browse the web. There are a lot of approaches that work very well, and of course, a ton of approaches that completely fail. I need to spend some time, sit down, and write out what I need. I feel like some sort of content management system will make things easier. I’m not quite sure how you get a design to look seamless across different software packages like Wordpress, Gallery, and Joomla, but I’m sure it’s possible.
Anyway, this is more of a rant than anything… a heads up to anyone who may keep an eye on this space. I hope to wrap it all into one coherent online identity. Stay tuned for a lot of development.

I posted this in the Gmail-Users Group and wanted to echo it here.
Google releasing Google Maps Mobile for PalmOS is one of the best things to happen to the platform in a long time. The app is fast, clean, and stable. With its release my head started spinning as I realized the implications of Google’s interest in the PalmOS platform.
Gmail is accessable through POP of course, but then you lose your ability to star and tag messages. It’s features like these that are, to me, the bread and butter of Gmail. I currently use Opera Mini on my Treo 650 to use the WAP version of Gmail.
What I’d LOVE to see is a PalmOS client for Gmail. Such a client could let us quickly star, tag, and filter our messages. Address fields could auto-fill from our Gmail address book, and the app could even possibly sync our PalmOS address book with our online Gmail address book. Attachments could be sent and saved to and from our memory cards easily.
One of the most exciting things a Gmail client could offer is push e-mail… instant notification of new messages, perhaps based on existing Gmail filters. (Only alert me of messages from my “family” filter) Push Gmail would especially help those businesses that are using hosted Gmail accounts with the Google Apps for Your Domain
program.
