Right when I was really starting to use del.icio.us a lot, Google has come out with their own bookmark system. You add a javascript link to your bookmarks bar of your browser, and you can bookmark pages as you surf. You can also bookmark Google search results straight from the search results page.
I can see this being very handy when I’m doing research for a project, assigning a unique label for each result. I don’t see this replacing del.icio.us for me though, since del.icio.us is such a public system. I like the fact that when I tag a page, I’m helping others find it based on content. I also like being able to easily share a list of pages with a tag with others, such as how I link to my favorite videos at www.ocell.net.
It will be interesting to see if people jump ship from del.icio.us to Google’s solution. The privacy Google provides is certainly a nice feature. I’ll have to spend some time playing with it.
