Google has released a beta version of Google Talk, their own IM/VOIP client. This is a welcome addition to the marketplace is in my eyes, and hopefully people will find it as a welcome alternative to the other networks such as AIM, Y!, and MSN. Google has their own client for Windows, while Mac and Linux users can use the service with other clients because it is all working through the Jabber/XMPP protocol. When you log in your list is automatically populated with contacts from your Gmail account.
Google Talk requires a Gmail user name and password. I’ll be giving it a shot in the next few days. What are your thoughts on this client?

There is a great post over at Winterson.com about the latest Star Wars movie. After seeing the movie with a friend, Jeremy decided that he enjoyed it enough to give a pirated DVD copy a shot since it was only a few bucks. Since the movie was dubbed in Chinese, it also had English subtitles (and counters running across the top in case that’s how you keep track of the plot). In his post, Jeremy has captured some of the ‘highlights’ of the botched translation from Chinese back to English. In many places the subtitles completely contradict text that is written on screen already, such as the title at the start of the movie (Star War vs. Star Wars). My friend Alan sent me this link while I was hanging out in a student lounge on campus, and I had to quit reading it because my face was turning red and I was losing control of my face I was laughing so hard. Be sure to give this post a look!

Well I regret that I haven’t been focusing on posting here as much as I’d like. There’s two reasons for this.
First of all, I’ve been working full time this summer, and that has taken up quite a bit of my energy.
Secondly, I really gotten sucked into picture taking, or as some much more serious people put it, “photography”. Flickr has been a huge catalyst in this, as I can take a picture, upload it, and share it instantly with tons of my friends. The community aspect of Flickr is alive and well. I am constantly astounded by how strong and cohesive the groups of contacts become in Flickr.
For the past 7 months I’ve been shooting my pictures with a Canon A75. I believe this is still one of the best compact cameras you can buy if you want to have complete control over manual functions. However, last weekend I decided that it was time for an “upgrade”, and I made a long-awaited jump to a Digital SLR camera. I’ve had my eye on the Canon 20D for months, but it proved to be out of the reach of my wallet, so I grabbed the extremely impressive Canon Rebel XT 350D. While smaller and cheaper than the 20D, you can’t forget that the XT still easily blows many other cameras in it’s price range away. In a week I have picked up two lenses already. I am completely loving it.
So I apologize for neglecting this blog a bit lately… but if it continues, be sure to head over to my Flickr account and you can see what’s been taking up all of my time!
