I just ran across yet another site that uses the whole “social tagging” idea to organize information while making it socially constructed. I was browsing around 43Things when I noticed a link in the sidebar to Upcoming.org. They describe the site on the homepage:
Upcoming.org is a social event calendar, completely driven by people like you. Manage your events, share events with friends and family, and syndicate your calendar to your own site.
What sparked my interest, and ultimately led to this post, was the tags page, which displays tags just like Flickr and 43Things. The great thing about the system is, it works. The community defines what the content is, and the laws of mass-intelligence make categorization much more accurate than any editor could achieve. What thoughts do you have on this trend? Is it good or bad? Leave a comment and get the discussion going.
And in the mean time, check out Upcoming.org, it certainly looks interesting.
