Evan Williams reports on a new Gmail feature in this blog post… integrated RSS feeds called “Web Clips”. He provides a screenshot showing RSS headlines at the top of the Gmail page. You can add your own feeds as well as choose from a selection of feeds Google provides. Headlines are swapped out with ads every now and then. The ads are labeled, but just putting them in a place where you frequently look to get information is going to improve their click-thru rates.
Only a few accounts have this feature so far, and I haven’t seen an announcement from Google yet, so it may be a while before all Gmail users see it. It looks like a nice little feature, and it may be worth sticking a weather feed in there or something. It’s not going to replace NetNewsWire for me, but I’m sure I can find some use for it.
Do you see Web Clips in your Gmail account? Leave a comment and let us know!
