The best possible Spotlight search
Originally uploaded by carpeicthus.
I ran across this screenshot taken by carpeicthus on Flickr. It shows some of the criteria you can now base a search on in Mac OS 10.4 (Tiger). Included in these options is a choice to filter based on whether a file exists or not.
Tiger just blew - my - mind!
So can anyone think of a situation in which this would be useful?

If you’ve been following the idea behind Creative Commons licensing (attention Mesh) then you will be very excited by Flickr’s latest update. By going to http://flickr.com/creativecommons/ you can browse all of the photos in Flickr by the type of Creative Commons licensing the creators have assigned to them!
What does this mean? Well the next time you’re looking for a great photo to use as the basis for your new website header you can easily find a great image from Flickr’s huge collection that you can freely use. Are you looking to make a commercial publication? Switch to look for the right license, and get your photo quickly. This will save time as you won’t fall in love with photos you can’t use.

I hate to contribute to the whole blog-echo effect, but this just cracked me up too much to not post. Engadget reports on a group in Israel who ran a transmission speed test between their local ADSL internet connection and three trained pigeons over a distance of 100km. The pigeons ended up outrunning the ADSL transfer rate, delivering 4gigs of data via memory cards strapped to their legs. I don’t know which is funnier… the wording of the Engadget write up, or the fact that people were so frustrated with their internet connection that they did this.

Multitasking
Originally uploaded by isabisa.
Alisa posted this picture she took of me a while back to her Flickr Photostream. Seeing it reminded me of the exact reason I’d like to have a Treo 650. Less bulk in my pockets, all of my information with me at all times, and one device to consult. The roads would be much safer.
And in the spirit of this photo, just in case anyone wants to contribute to the cause of getting this poor college kid a Treo 650, I’m putting a Paypal donation button below. You can look at it as payment for the content I provide here, a gift to help out a student, your part to spread the use of PalmOS throughout the world, or a way to make the roads safer. Take your pick.
Current Total: $10.00 (Thanks!)
Goal: $350.00

MicroNet has released the Mac mini accessory I’ve been waiting for. It’s true, I don’t own a Mac mini, but as a technology enthusiast, this is an accessory that I’ve been hoping for just for the sake of all of the Mac mini owners out there. It just makes sense.
The miniMate is an external hard drive enclosure and USB/Firewire port replicator modeled to perfectly match the Mac mini’s form factor. That’s right… the miniMate delivers on the accessory-stacking bliss we all instantly started dreaming of when we first laid eyes on the Mac mini. Prices aren’t bad either… with an 80gig drive setting you back $149, and the line topping out at 400gig with a price of $499. While it’s not as cheap as finding a huge drive on rebate and popping it in a $30 enclosure, I think it’s a steal for an enclosure that adds onto the Mac mini like it does while providing more USB and Firewire ports.
Check out the byodkm post for some great pictures and more information on the MicroNet miniMate.
