Left Rear Dead on Logitech Z-680’s

Thursday, November 27th, 2003

Last night while watching Finding Nemo I noticed that I was getting no sound from my left rear speaker on my Logitech Z-680 surround sound speakers. After a ton of trouble-shooting I have determined that the output for this channel on the amp is dead. It is not the speaker, speaker wire, inputs, or software.

I headed to Logitech’s website and hit the product discussion forums to find that a few other people have had the exact same problem. I’m hoping I will be able to use my Best Buy replacement plan to get a new sub/amp. I don’t want to ship my speakers off to Logitech for three months to get fixed. If anyone else has had this problem, would you mind sending me an e-mail with your solution/fix? E-mail me at ocellnuri[at]hotmail[dot]com. I’ll keep the blog posted on how it all turns out. I want my 5 channels back!

Winamp 5.0rc8 Released

Tuesday, November 25th, 2003

Winamp 5.0 Release Candidate 8 is out. I just loaded it up, and it feels like a winner. I havn’t had a chance to really put it through the paces, but I have milkdrop running inside the skin… and if that isn’t slick I don’t know what is. If you can’t wait for the final release (like me) go ahead and click on the link below for more information and a link to the download. There really is no reason you should be using Winamp2 or 3 now that this is in such a stable form. At least, that’s my opinion. We all have our own needs.

ObjectDock goes v1.0

Tuesday, November 25th, 2003

ObjectDock is v1.0 now. It is out of beta. I’ve been using the beta since about version 0.5, and I love it to death. If you are looking for an alternate to quicklaunch, or a total replacement for the taskbar in windows, give this a look. It mimics the dock in OSX. There are tons of zoomer icons you can find on the web. I am currently using ObjectDock as a quicklaunch replacement. I have it at the top of the screen set to autohide, with the taskbar functionality turned off. Below is a screenshot.

$550 Sony PSP?

Monday, November 24th, 2003

IGN has an interview with a game publisher Koei. This is the first Japanese publisher to announce that they are developing games for the up-coming Sony portable. The company representative also said that he would not be surprised if the unit carried a price tag of above $555… Word is Sony denies this price, which is expected. I hope the unit will be able to ship around the $300 price point initially. It’s not going to steal the 12 year old market, but it will be able to take a large chunk of the college demographic. I’d buy it!
