Old-tech Palm Smartphone
This was just posted at palminfocenter.com. It is made by RVTec. The company’s website quotes it as “An Industrial PDA Phone with Barcode Scanner from RV Tec”. It is a PalmV with a built in GSM phone and bar code scanner! Check out the site and look at the specs. It would be cool to get ahold of one of these… not because it is usefull but just cause it would be cool to see how it is all put together. http://www.rvtec.com/products/index.jsp?contentid=42

Tough Car Day
My car has been a handful of trouble for me today. Don’t get me wrong, I love my car! I drive a 1995 Nissan 200SX SEIt’s just today it cause me quite a bit of stress. Today I went to Lowes to get a key copied and as I pulled into the parking lot my car started to die. My CD player started hissing and fading, my power steering went, my brakes went, and my engine died. The car would not start. I called AAA and they sent a tow truck. While we waited for the truck we went in and got the key copied. When we came out about 10 minutes later I tried again and the car started fine. I called up the tow service and canceled my call. I drove to Advanced Auto to get my second new driver’s side drive axle (due to a torn CV boot, and then bad replacement axle). Of course, after I leave Advanced Auto and head to the Wolfpack Motorsports shop my car dies again. This time it died right when I got onto campus. After a few hours and a loaned battery the car is now in my garage with a charger on the battery. We measured the battery before we got it home and it was at 3 volts. That sucka was dead!
Tomorrow we have to take the left wheel off and replace the drive axle. I might explain that whole situation at another time, but at the moment I’m not feeling it. Check out the Wolfpack Motorsports page though… they do some awesome stuff! How many schools build a mini-F1 car with a full carbon-fiber chassis?

Project CB (Cardboard) Box is a linux computer I have been slowly building. It is a PII-350 housed in a cardboard box from my Tascam 414mkII 4-track recorder. I think the mb came from a dell… but I’m not sure. I have amassed the different components over the last couple of years. I just upgraded my main machine to 512meg of ram, so I have two extra sticks of 64. This brings the total RAM in the CB Box to about 224meg if I’m not mistaken. It also has a slot load cd rom and no floppy drive. The unit used to be my recording box for my band. It ran Windows 2000 Server on a 2 gig “Big Foot” and a 1.3 gig standard hard drive. Both hd’s died and so I have been hd’less for a while.
Looks like hard drives are heading towards dirt cheap now though, so I plan on getting one at about 120gig soon. I am sure this is old news… but it looks like they run about $1/gig now. Now I can get a hard drive and complete my cardboard box computer. List of prices is here… http://www.pricewatch.com/menus/m26.htm
I know the mb won’t support anything over 8gig, so I’ll have to burn the EZrom file to a cd to load to the computer. That’s something else this computer needs.. a CD burner. Back in the recording days I used a zip drive. I could also use my Sony Clie and 128 Memory Stick as a removable drive until I get a burner. Sure.. I could go ahead and shell out $90 for the latest 48X48X48 burner.. but then I’m spending $250 and not $150… see???
